A practical approach for tutors and learning centers

A tutoring business needs typography for parent information, booking pages, lesson headings, and worksheets. These are different reading tasks. Build a restrained identity, then test instructional text with the actual words, symbols, and answer spaces students will encounter.

DM Sans and Inter are starting options for the website and parent communication. Before choosing a worksheet face, compare letterforms against the materials used in instruction. Test letters such as a and g, similar-looking characters, mathematical signs, and punctuation rather than assuming a familiar brand font suits every lesson.

In two experiments, the Dyslexie font did not improve reading speed or accuracy relative to the comparison fonts. Kuster et al. (2018) Avoid presenting a font as a treatment for dyslexia or a guaranteed learning advantage.

Prepare a short worksheet proof with a teacher’s input, then check instructions and answer spaces with the intended readers. Let students’ needs and the teaching task guide adjustments. On the parent-facing page, keep program descriptions, session times, prices, and contact details clearly labeled, using a consistent supporting text style.

Parent information and bookings

Use direct descriptions for programs, session times, and prices. Carry a consistent supporting face into the booking page. Test the longest program title on a phone and make the contact route easy to identify.

Letterforms, symbols, and worksheet layout

Review worksheet character shapes against the teaching materials in use. Compare letters, punctuation, mathematical signs, and answer spaces with a teacher’s input. A website font choice does not establish the right instructional face for every student or task.

Testing with teachers and intended readers

Use a short realistic worksheet proof and ask the intended readers to explain the instructions. Check whether answer spaces suit the task. Adjust the design around the teacher’s goals and readers’ needs; do not advertise a special font as a guaranteed learning intervention.

Check before you commit

Ask intended readers to explain the task instructions; review character choices with the teacher and avoid clinical claims.

Research behind the advice

These font pairs are editorial recommendations. The cited studies did not test these specific combinations. Business applications are design advice, not measured promises of sales or bookings.
